The Developing Academic Skills course is a preparatory course for holders of PhD and academic Masters who wish to teach in higher educational institutions in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It is required by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to obtain scientific titles and participation is open to everyone. The curriculum of the course is defined by the Institute of Developing Academic Skills and graduates from the course are awarded a certificate by the Institute. However obtaining the certificate does not mean the end of the process of obtaining scientific title as it has different regulations and necessities.

University of Human Development is one of the centers qualified by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to deliver the required course. However the university is not responsible to facilitate other scientific title obtaining requirements for participants except for its own staffs. This course is supervised by the directorate of Quality Assurance and managed by the Development Center for Research and Training in the university.
